Custom jewellery with Ogham writing

Custom jewellery with Ogham writing

Irish bog oak has always held a special kind of magic. Formed over thousands of years in the peat bogs of Ireland, this ancient wood carries the depth of our landscape, its mythology, and its history within its grain. Every piece is unique. Every line and texture tells a story carved by time.

Now, I’m delighted to offer something even more meaningful:

custom bog oak jewellery with your name—or the name of someone you love-inscribed in Ogham.

Why Ogham?

Ogham is the earliest known form of Irish writing, dating back to the 4th century. Its beautiful linear strokes were traditionally carved into standing stones to honour people and mark important places. Today, Ogham continues to hold deep cultural significance, connecting you to your roots perhaps.

Adding a name in Ogham to bog oak— wood that itself is older than recorded Irish history— creates a powerful blend of past and present. It’s a way to carry heritage close to your heart.

Every custom piece begins with a carefully selected piece of genuine Irish bog oak from the West of Ireland - you will see many examples of the shapes and sizes I create on the website. From there, I inscribe your chosen name or word by using Ogham lines, keeping as close as possible to the ancient writing style used on the old stones of Ireland.

Choose your name, a loved one's name or a word that means something to you. It can be the perfect gift for:

  • Birthdays
  • Anniversaries
  • Graduations
  • Weddings
  • Memorial pieces
  • Awards, retirement gift, trophies
  • To mark a personal milestone or achievement
  • Yourself - you deserve it

Because every piece is one of a kind and completely unique, it becomes a keepsake to treasure for years.

There are a few things to consider:

  • Ogham is based on old Irish, and as a result only 20 of the typical Latin characters have Ogham equivalents. The letters J, K, V, W, X, and Y are absent from Ogham. Certain sources such as this one suggest phonetic replacements can be used in place of the missing letters.
  • Ogham is read from bottom to top.
  • Depending on the size of the jewellery/sculpture the length of the word may be limited. The longer the piece the more letters I can add!
  • I will send you an image of the chosen word translated into Ogham writing before I start to work on it.

Custom Ogham jewellery is more than an accessory. It’s a connection—to Ireland, to memory, to identity, to story. Paired with the natural beauty of ancient bog oak, it becomes a wearable piece of Irish history, infused with meaning.

If you’re looking for something truly personal, rooted in tradition yet designed for everyday wear, this is a beautiful place to begin.
